Cancer prevention research is paramount
Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada and is reaching epidemic proportions. Yet many cancers are actually preventable.
Canada invests very little in cancer prevention research. Most research today is focused on pharmaceutical therapies to treat cancer. Less than 5% of all funding is dedicated to prevention and the investigation of environmental links.
Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre is a pioneer in Canada!
Awarded two of the largest-ever naturopathic and integrative oncology research grants in North America, the OICC is breaking barriers and advancing cancer research. The OICC is co-leading a $3.85M trial with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and a $3M study with the Bastyr Integrative Oncology Research Center in Washington, involving multiple sites across Canada and the US.
The OICC researches underlying causes of cancer and factors that contribute to its recurrence, while exploring innovative integrative treatment approaches. Its research mission includes the study of environmental links and how the public can reduce exposures to toxins that may promote cancer development and progression.

Alain Ménard, microbiologist, co-founded The Green Beaver Company with biochemist Karen Clark. They were both appalled by the amount of chemicals found in kid’s shampoos, bubble baths and other products. With their new family in mind, they decided to do something about it. They left the pharmaceutical and pesticide industry behind to create healthier natural products. Alain regularly gives seminars on the potential health risks and environmental hazards associated with the chemicals found in everyday personal care products.
