Why we avoid Chemical Sunscreens
Sunscreens can be classified into two categories based on their active ingredients. Natural sunscreens use minerals called zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. Chemical sunscreens use synthetic molecules such as avobenzone, octisalate, homosalate, etc.
Here are some of the reason why we avoid using chemical sunscreens ;
- Natural sunscreens (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) reflect both UVB and UVA radiation whereas most chemical sunscreens absorb UVB rays adequately but not necessarily UVA rays.
- Many chemical sunscreens can penetrate our skin and circulate in our blood stream. Studies of found chemical sunscreens in human urine and breast milk.
- Many chemical sunscreens have been shown to mimic human hormones which could potentially lead to the development of certain types of cancer.

They were both appalled by the amount of chemicals found in kid’s shampoos, bubble baths and other products. With their new family in mind, they decided to do something about it. They left the pharmaceutical and pesticide industry behind to create healthier natural products. Alain regularly gives seminars on the potential health risks and environmental hazards associated with the chemicals found in everyday personal care products.
