I started to research different brands to find healthier and greener personal care products and started discovering more about natural personal products. It was then that I first learned about Green Beaver.
For as long as I can remember I have struggled with eczema and skin sensitivities. My entire childhood my parents struggled to keep my eczema under control, along with struggles with asthma and food allergies. Thankfully, I was able to get my eczema and asthma under control in my teens but even as an adult I still suffer from the occasional eczema flare up.
My beautiful daughter was born in 2014. When she was about 6 months old we noticed she started to show the occasional eczema patch here and there. Around this same time, we attended a popular baby show in Toronto. It was then that I stumbled across a vendor who sold an all-natural diaper rash cream, but what caught my attention was a comparison chart they displayed of popular baby cream brands. This chart listed all the ingredients and contents in these so called “baby safe” products. I couldn’t even pronounce or understand what these ingredients were. Upon reading this chart I discovered that the very popular product I had been using on my daughter was full of chemicals, alcohol and fragrances. The very same product that my parents had used on me as a child and frankly throughout my entire childhood. It was then and there that I decided we would stop using this brand and their products immediately, not only on her but as a family.
“It starts with educating yourself about what’s inside your personal products not only for your children but for your entire family.”
– Realtor and Mom to 3-year-old Avery
It was also then that I decided I would educate myself on the ingredients of all the personal products we would bring into our home. I knew that there was no doubt I would seek out more natural and green products for our family to use in our everyday lives. I started to research different brands and started discovering more about natural personal products. It was then that I first learned about Green Beaver. The very first product that we purchased from Green Beaver was their sunscreen, it is now a staple for our family in the summer and on vacation.
Let’s face it, it’s not easy to make such a change and to be honest I work on it everyday to make our household more “green”. However, the first and easiest change for us was to start with changing our everyday personal products. Since I have struggled with eczema and allergies my entire life this was a no brainer. Our second change was to switch over to a fragrance free, natural laundry detergent and eliminating the use of fabric softener all together.
These two changes have helped subside our skin irritations and eczema flare ups tremendously. Although we are still on the journey to keeping our eczema under control, I think it starts with educating yourself about what’s inside your personal products not only for your children but for your entire family. We are still a green home work in progress, but little changes have made the world of difference for us and I hope that other families discover they can make little changes too.
