Choosing the right skin products for my twin boys is extremely important to me. I deliberately chose to use all-natural products for anything that would come in contact with their skin. My husband and I have sensitive skin and I have bouts of eczema from time to time. I wanted to be sure that if one of the boys were to develop a skin irritation, it would not be because of a product with chemicals.
So low and behold at 11 months, Maxwell (the eldest twin) got eczema and after three years of working with our medical and naturopathic doctor, we finally found the right balance of diet and skin care products to manage it. While I love consistency with my own skin products, I do alternate between brands that work well with the boys’ skin and dependent on season.
So, when Green Beaver asked if I was open to incorporating their Green Beaver Baby line to the boys’ skin routine, I asked both Maxwell and Brandon, if they were open to trying something new. Maxwell took a keen interest because of his experience and so I read the labels to him, explained that it was all natural and that it was the same company who made the green apple toothpaste that he liked.
Maxwell agreed, and the boys have been using the body wash and lotion for just over two weeks. For their bath, they use both the “tear free” non-scented and lavender wash and it’s come through on its promise (woohoo!). This is a huge win because I used a product once, which claimed no tears and during their bath it stung their eyes and they both freaked out. I lost my credibility and never used that product again.
After their baths, the boys chose their lotion and we applied it liberally on their skin. I liked the texture of the lotion as it wasn’t too heavy nor was it oily. The lavender was a light scent and wasn’t too overbearing, considering that I double the amount of lotion on Maxwell during the winter months.
That first night after using the Green Beaver Baby line, they went to bed and I reread the labels and the company website. With any new product, I always worry for Maxwell. Just because a product says all natural, it may just not work for him. He may not like the texture of a product, the smell and at times just be resistant because of his experience and the journey he’s had with managing his sensitive skin.
So, the next morning, I checked his skin to see if I needed to reapply body lotion. I was pleased that his skin wasn’t dry and didn’t feel a need to reapply. However, I still asked Maxwell if he wanted to put on lotion. He said no and that was it.
I’ve had three plus years of trial and error using all-natural products on Maxwell. It’s an expensive and frustrating process trying to find the right product that works well for your child. I’m extremely pleased with the Green Baby Beaver line and will continue using it with the boys.
